I grew up in a small town and my parents had decent jobs. We never went hungry and never seemed to be lacking for much. It was a typical middle income existence. A few really important things they taught me was the value of a hard day's work and to always treat others the way I would want to be treated. But we didn’t really talk about money in our home. So I didn’t get my financial lessons there.

I went away to university to get a degree based on the advice of many. I received my B. Comm. Degree from the University of Calgary after 4 years – and then couldn’t find a job. My foray into the financial industry was borne out of a personal interest….and necessity. And here I am 24+ years later.

I was fortunate to have some great mentors early in my career that taught me the strategies of the high net worth. Initially I was somewhat skeptical. I was learning things that weren't taught in business finance or economics classes. With research, I discovered that personal finance is quite different and just isn't taught to the average person.
